Just like here in the support site for brainstorm. Allow users to directly reply by email to an instant message that is reporting a comment addition. i have many users who would join in a conversation if this functionality was available.
CON: less people visit brainstorm
PRO: More people get involved.

Thanks for the feedback Jeremy. We use a tool called Zendesk for this support site and we've been very impressed with their "reply by email" functionality.
